Bringing the Public Interest Back to Sports
Just like real estate, sports are all about location, location, location. There is nothing more local than your sports team; whether it’s your pro, minor, or youth team, sports provide pride to your community. It’s with that in mind that SFC is proud to announce the incorporation of Sports Fans Coalition New York, our first separate local chapter. SFCNY is based in New York City and will be tackling all the issues that plague the country’s largest sports market.
They’ve decided to kick things off with a major project designed to revolutionize the media landscape in New York by offering Locast.org, an internet streaming service that will bring your live, local broadcast television straight to you on your computer or mobile device.
“Broadcasters use licenses worth billions of dollars and got those licenses for free from the American public," said David Goodfriend, Chairman of SFCNY and Founder of Locast.org. “Some people can’t receive their local broadcaster’s over-the-air signal, either because they live too far from the transmitter or in a household where broadcast signals won’t reach, like a basement apartment. Locast.org provides a solution where viewers can watch local broadcast stations online without paying an arm and a leg for it.”
Today’s media landscape — especially with sports — has become over-corporatized. Large companies are merging with other large companies, ISP and Pay-TV providers are raising rates, and at the end of the day, it’s the sports fan who suffers the most. It was never supposed to be like this. Local broadcast television was supposed to be a public service to the community. Locast is about bringing back that public service.
Locast is only available in the New York City metro area (Nielsen DMA), but SFCNY hopes to help bring it to future local chapters. So, sign up today!
